Snail
Description
Handcrafted by Koko Mosaico using the Ravenna technique, with the direct method on cement mortar.
Set in an untreated wooden frame, the mosaic is composed of fine marble tesserae, hand-cut using the traditional tools of the craft: the mosaic hammer and hardie.
The artwork represents a detail of the mosaic floor of the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta in Aquileia, Italy. One of the snails, precious loot placed on a tray, is intent on escaping, so for us it is a symbol of freedom.
