Parrot

Handmade by Koko Mosaico, direct technique on cement mortar.

Wooden frame, cement mortar, fine marbles and smalti hand-cut using the ancient tools of the trade: the hammer and the hardie.

The smalti come from Fornace Orsoni, the last historic furnace in Venice, which has been using the same methods since 1888 to produce 24K gold leaf mosaics, colored gold, and Venetian smalti.

This detail represents one of the many little birds that can be admired in the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo.
